John, chapter 3
Updated: 5 days ago
Father God, thank you for this day. May You give us understanding as we read the Word and redeem the time in the name of Jesus, Amen. Thank you LORD.
John 3:4-8 (NKJV)
"Nicodemus said to Him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?
Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.
That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
Do not marvel that I said to you, "You must be born again."
The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit."
Amen, thank you LORD.
These verses are a conversation between Jesus and a Rabbi (Jewish teacher) called Nicodemus. Jesus is speaking to him about what it means to be born again and most of what He is sharing is news to the Rabbi's ears. Becoming born again is a work of God that comes as a result of hearing by faith of the good news of the gospel. Jesus also shares that in order for one to be born again, they must be born of the water and of the Spirit. The water represents the full immersion into water by way of water baptism and to be born by the Spirit is a work of the Holy Spirit. At the same time, the water also represents the Word of God. As a church and body of believers, Christ sanctifies, makes us clean and washes us with the water of Word so that we would be holy and without spots and blemish (Ephesians 5:26-27). The Word of God and the Spirit of God work hand in hand.
1 Corinthians 2:12-13 (NKJV) says, "Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. These things we also speak, not in words which man's wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual." They are things that have been freely given to each child of God by God who knew you before you were formed in your mother's womb (Jeremiah 1:5). When one become born again, they are able to receive these things because the Spirit of God reveals them to you (1 Corinthians 2:10) through the wisdom of God that is found in His Word - Christ. Ephesians 5:17 (NKJV) says, "Therefore do not be unwise but understand what the will of the Lord is." The understanding of the Lord's will concerning your life comes with renewing your mind with God's Word that will bring forth the vision and the plans and purposes that God has concerning your life as His workmanship (Ephesians 2:10).
I'll end with this Word found in 1 Corinthians 2:16 (NKJV)
"For who has known the mind of the LORD that he may instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ."
Amen, thank you LORD.
