Leviticus, chapter 24
Updated: Sep 30
Bless the LORD O my soul and forget not all His benefits in the name of Jesus, Amen.
Leviticus 24:1-4 (NKJV)
"Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying:
"Command the children of Israel that they bring to you pure oil of pressed olives for the light, to make the lamps burn continually."
Outside the veil of the Testimony, in the tabernacle of meeting, Aaron shall be in charge of it from evening until morning before the LORD continually; it shall be a statute forever in your generations.
He shall be in charge of the lamps on the pure gold lampstand before the LORD continually."
Amen, thank you LORD.
When you read the last book in the Bible, Revelation, you will find a repeat of some of the events and symbols found in the law of Moses like the tabernacle, the lamps and lampstands. The connection of both the Old and New Testament shows us that the Word of God is one.
Today's lead verses are highlighting the duties that Aaron had as High Priest some of which included maintaining the light and make sure that it burns continually. These lamps would be put on a pure gold lampstand where they would burn continually (Leviticus 24:4). In Revelation 1:20, the lampstands represent the seven churches. Proverbs 20: speaks of the spirit of man as the lamp of the LORD.
In Thessalonians 5:23, the Word of God says, "Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ." A reading of these verse shows us that man is made of the body, soul and spirit. Salvation is a spiritual experience where the spirit of man encounters the Spirit of God as Jesus comes to live in the person.
In John 3:5 (NKJV) Jesus says, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot see the kingdom of God." When Jesus comes to live in a person, He also gives them of His life which is eternal and everlasting. John 1:4 (NKJV) speaks of Christ and says, "In Him was the life, and the life was the light of men." The life of Jesus inside the life of a born again believer has the light of Jesus that shines on the inside of them. It is this light that shines on and in God's children that the darkness cannot comprehend (John 1:5). However, this light on the inside of you has to be kept burning by exercising yourself to the things of God. In the Old Testament, this responsibility of keeping the lamps burning was for the high priest who did it on behalf of God and the people. In the New Testament, this responsibility is for every child of God. Apostle Paul reminded Timothy, "This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift that God gave you when I laid my hands on you." (2 Timothy 1:6 NLT).
In the law of Moses, obedience to the law of Moses was a form of worshipping God and in the New Testament, Jesus in John 4:23 (NKJV) says, "But the hour is coming, and now is, when true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him."
This calls us to get active with the Word of God and its truth by living your life in obedience to the Word of God. The Bible is not a nice book to read, it contains the power and the Spirit of the LORD to transform the life of a believer who reads, meditates on it and does what the Word says with the help of the Holy Spirit. In 1 Corinthians 2:11 (NKJV) says, "For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God." The best way to know the things that God has for you is through the reading of His Word with help of the Holy Spirit to help you understand the Scriptures.
I'll end with this Word found in Zechariah 4:6 (NKJV)
"So he answered and said to me: "This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: 'Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit says the LORD of hosts."
Amen, thank you LORD.
Invitation to salvation: The best gift that Jesus gave us is receiving salvation and eternal life which is a personal relationship knowing God as our Father and His Son, Jesus Christ.
If you would like to receive this free gift of God's salvation, please say this prayer with me:
"I believe with my heart and confess with my mouth that God sent His One and only Son who died for my sins and was raised from the dead so that I could have eternal life." Amen
If you just said this prayer, GLORY TO GOD, you are now a new creation in Christ Jesus! In case you have not already, please prayerfully consider becoming a member of a church and get WATER BAPTIZED!
