Leviticus, chapter 5

Praise be to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ who has given us every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places because we are united with Christ Jesus. Thank you Lord for Your Word that is life. Your Word is light and the light shines and the darkness did not comprehend it in the name of Jesus, Amen.

As always, I encourage you to read this chapter in your Bible alongside this post. In chapter 5, we see two types of sin. The sin that comes from human interactions and the trespass sin that is against the Lord. Leviticus 5:1, a person who sins in the hearing of an oath, a wtiness who has seen or known of the matter but chooses to not say, bears guilt. A person who touches any human uncleaneness bears guilt according to the law (Leviticus 5:3). A person who thoughtlessly speaks evil, or to do good bears guilt as well (Leviticus 5:4) A person who also touches anything unclean like a dead livestock or carcass shall be unclean and guilty (Leviticus 5:2). We also see the guilt that comes as a result of an unintentional sin or trespass against the Lord regarding a holy thing. (Leviticus 5:15).

When we looked at chapter 4, the sin offering, only when the person came to the knowledge of the unintentional sin they committed were they able to offer a sacrifice to the Lord through the anointed priest. In this chapter, their is no particular mention of an anointed priest as seen in chapter 4.

Looking at the sin offering with new covenant eyes shows us that Jesus is the Anointed Priest offering a perfect sacrifice to God, the Father for the unintentional sins of the world. The sin of the world is unintentional because the enemy brought sin into the life of man through Adam and Eve's disobedience to God (Genesis 3:4-6) which later flowed to all mankind. This was not God's plan for mankind. As a result, salvation through Jesus Christ undoes the work of the enemy and what man could never do on His own by removing the sin of the flesh. Jesus says in John 12:47 (NKJV), "And if anyone hears My words and does not believe, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world."

Unlike the sin offering in chapter 4, chapter 5 shows us something different concerning the trespass sin committed against the holy of things of the LORD (Leviticus 5:15-19). That is, the person bears the guilt whether the sin comes to their knowledge or not. Leviticus 5:17 (NKJV) reads, "If a person sins, and commits any of these things which are forbidden to be done by the commandments of the LORD, though he does not know it, yet he is guilty and shall bear his iniquity." The book of Ezra shows an example of a trespass sin that was committed against the LORD when the people acted against God's commands when they married pagan wives but they later confessed their sin and hoped in God's mercy to redeem them (Ezra 10:2).

I believe the difference between the sin offering and the trespass offering is the wilful disobedience of God's commandments which led one to make a trespass offering to the LORD. This is because all creation recognizes the presence of the Supreme Being regardless of the name one may choose to call Him. Romans 1:20 (NKJV) speaks of God's ways that are known to all and says, "For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse." As a result, our hearts always know when we have committed an act against the LORD's ways.

Also, in the new covenant sin is sin, it does not have hierarchies but there is a solution and His name is Jesus, the Son of God, who died for the sins of the world and is risen from the dead giving life to all who receive Him.

Invitation to salvation: If you would like to be born again into God's Kingdom. This means your sins would be forgiven and you would have a personal relationship to know God as Your Father and you as His child by receiving His Son, Jesus as Lord and Savior of your life, I invite you to receive the free gift of God's salvation. Please say these words with me:

"I believe with my heart and confess with my mouth that; Jesus Christ, the Son of God came in a human body to die for my sins so that I could have a new life where I am dead to sin and alive to God. I repent of my past sins and enter the Kingdom of light where I choose relationship with Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour and with God as my loving Father today and forever." AMEN.

GLORY TO GOD, You are now a new creation in Christ Jesus! In case you have not already, please prayerfully consider becoming a member of a church and get WATER BAPTIZED!

I'll end with this Word found in 1 Corinthians 1:30-31 (NKJV)

30. "But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God - and righteousness and sanctification and redemption -

31. that, as it is written, "He who glories, let him glory in the LORD".
