John, chapter 13
John 13:33-35 (NKJV)
"Little children, I shall be with you a little while longer. You will seek Me; and as I said to the Jews, 'Where I am going, you cannot come,' so now I say to you.
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.
By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."
Amen, thank you LORD.
In this chapter, Jesus is having the last supper, a meal He shared with His disciples right before His crucifixion on the cross. Jesus shares His heart in this chapter and I believe one of the biggest take aways He imparts to His disciples is the commandment to love one another. This commandment was not only for His disciples at the time but for all who would ever follow Him as Lord and Saviour of their lives. Love which is God's heart is the foundation of our faith and spoken of in different places in the Bible. For instance, Romans 13:8 (NKVJ) says, "Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law." Thankfully, God would not require you to demonstrate love if He did not already provide the ability for you to love another. Today, I believe the LORD is reminding every child of God of their capacity to love one another for God's love has been poured in our hearts by the Holy Spirit (Romans 5:5). Not only does God provide the ability for you to love another but the ability to also love yourself because we are commanded to love our neighbours as we love ourselves (Mark 12:31 & Leviticus 19:18).
Another place we see love spoken of in detail is through the letter of Apostle Paul to the Corinthian church. This church was functioning at a high level with gifts of the Spirit that they had to be reminded of the importance of order and unity in the church regardless of the operation of the spiritual gift on one's life.
Later on, Apostle Paul also reminds them that the greatest gift from God is the gift of love. The Spirit of the LORD through Apostle Paul continues to say in 1 Corinthians 13:2 (NKJV), "And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing." Friend, the love of God unites and causes to bring together the body of Christ. The different gifts of the Spirit were given by God to unite the body of believers as one and not to divide them or cause competition. When disciples and followers of the Apostles at the time including Paul's started to form groups among themselves, Apostle Paul reminded them, "Therefore let no one boast in men. For all things are yours: whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas, or the world, or life or death, or things present or things to come - all are yours. And you are Christ's and Christ is God's." (1 Corinthians 3:21-23 NKJV).
As God has loved us, we also ought to love one another (1 John 4:11) and love is an action. AMEN!
I'll end with this Word found in 1 John 3:16-18 (NKJV)
By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
But whoever has this world's goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?
My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.
Amen, thank you LORD.
Invitation to salvation: If you would like to receive eternal life and be born again into God's Kingdom, that is saved and have a personal relationship with God as Your Father and you as His child by receiving His Beloved Son, Jesus as Lord and Savior of your life, I invite you to say this confession:
"I believe with my heart and confess with my mouth that; Jesus Christ, the Son of God came in a human body to die for my sins so that I could have a new life where I am dead to sin and alive to God. I repent of my past sins and enter the Kingdom of light where I choose relationship with Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour and with God as my loving Father today and forever." AMEN.
