Father God, thank you for the blessing of a new day. Right now LORD, we commit this time of the reading the Word to you and we thank you for understanding that is quickening Your sons and daughters into their appointed inheritance in the name of Jesus, Amen.

John chapter 6 starts off with Jesus feeding hungry multitudes of people. Jesus miraculously multiplies five bread and two fish to feed over five thousand people and they were left overs as well after everyone had eaten to the full (John 6:8-12). As the chapter continues, we see Jesus unveiling Himself to His disciples who although spent alot of time with Him, did not fully know or understand Him. This was displayed in their unbelief. Jesus walks on water and they are amazed and later on we also see some disciples walk away from Him (John 6:66) because of the words that He was speaking concerning His earthly ministry.

In this chapter, we also see that Jesus satisfying the physical needs of the people made Him popular and as a result, more people followed Him. However, this time round, Jesus tells them the about the bread that comes down from heaven that if they eat, they would never hunger again and would have everlasting life (John 6:27). Jesus is the bread of life (John 6:48) and anyone who eats of this bread will live forever (John 6:58).

Some of the people when they listened to Jesus as the bread of life, had questions including some of His disciples as well (John 6:64). Others, asked if Jesus was not Joseph's son, whose father and mother and siblings they knew (John 6:42). When He was feeding the people and healing the sick, they did not have questions. But now that He was introducing eternal life to them, unbelief set in and the familiarity of those who knew Jesus missed it. This did not deter Jesus though, for He said to them, "No one can come to me unless the Father who sent Me draws Him and I will raise him up at the last day." (John 6:44).

Today, Jesus' arms remain wide open to receive all. For those who heard His Words and desired to receive the kingdom of God, asked Him, "What shall we do that we may work the works of God? Jesus answered and said to them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in Him who He sent." (John 6:28-29).

Jesus says in John 6:39-40 (NKJV)

  1. "This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day.

  2. "And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day."

Amen, thank you LORD.
