John, chapter 7
Abba Father, thank you for Your Word. May it be a lamp onto our feet and a light unto our path as we grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.
John 7:28-29 (AMP)
"Then Jesus called out as He taught in the temple, "You know Me and know where I am from; and I have not come on my own initiative [as self appointed], but He who sent Me is true, and Him you do not know.
I know Him Myself because I am from Him [I came from His very presence] and it was He [personally] who sent Me."
Amen, thank you LORD.
When Jesus was asked about Himself, He always spoke of who sent Him - God, the Father. Jesus shared that the one who would not receive the Kingdom of God like a little child would not enter it (Mark 10:15). I believe Jesus was drawing a picture for us when it comes to children who are humble in heart. The humility of a child is seen in their dependence and reliance on their parents. A child cannot successfully accomplish something without help from their parents.
Chapter 7 of John mirrors Jesus' humility which is seen in His complete reliance and dependence on God. Whenever the people demanded answers and questions from Jesus about His identity and where He was from, He always pointed them to God, the Father who sent Him to accomplish His purpose of reconciling man back to personal relationship with God (2 Corinthians 5:17-18).
Jesus' humility through His reliance and dependence on God in everything also shows its importance when it came to fulfilling His assignment and purpose. Jesus in Matthew 11:29-30 (AMP) invites all who receive Him and says, "Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me [following Me as My disciple], for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST (renewal, blessed quiet) FOR YOUR SOULS. For my yoke is easy [to bear] and My burden is light." - AMEN, thank you LORD.
As a child of God, reliance and dependence in Christ demonstrates your humility. This may not always come easy with a culture that promotes self reliance, self effort, competition and mastering everything to do with yourself. However, when you put your faith in Jesus, He promises to carry your burdens and give you rest.
I'll end with this Word found in Jeremiah 6:16 (NKJV)
"Thus says the LORD, Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where the good way is, and walk in it; then you will find rest for your souls. But they said, 'We will not walk in it."
Amen, thank you LORD.
Invitation to salvation: If you would like to receive Jesus and be born again into God's Kingdom, that is saved and have a personal relationship with God as Your Father and you as His child by receiving His Son, Jesus as Lord and Savior of your life, I invite you to say this confession:
"I believe with my heart and confess with my mouth that; Jesus Christ, the Son of God came in a human body to die for my sins so that I could have a new life where I am dead to sin and alive to God. I repent of my past sins and enter the Kingdom of light where I choose relationship with Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour and with God as my loving Father today and forever." AMEN.
