John, chapter 8
Praise the LORD! Let all the earth rejoice and praise the name of the LORD, the Creator of heaven and earth, the One who has loved us with an everlasting love found in His Beloved Son, Jesus. We give you all the glory, the praise and may Your name be forever exalted over all the ends of the earth, Amen.
John, chapter 8 is one of the most powerful chapters in the Bible. A woman was caught in the very act of adultery and was brought to Jesus as He was teaching in the temple (John 8:2-4). According to the law, Exodus 20:14 says, "you shall not commit adultery." Deuteronomy 5:18 re echoes the same and Leviticus 20:10 speaks of both the adulterer and the adulteress being put to death as a penalty.
John 8:6 also says the religious leaders at the time had brought the woman to Jesus because they were testing Him so that they could have something to substantiate against Him (John 8:6). Jesus raised Himself up and said, "He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first." (John 8:7). I like that the Bible says Jesus raised Himself up representing the weight of the matter and the attention it required from Him. God's love and mercy spoke life and canceled out the sentence of death which was punishment for a person caught in adultery according to the law.
It is important to remember that Jesus did not come to abolish the law for Jesus said to her, "Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?" She said, "No one, Lord." And Jesus said to her, "Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more." (John 8:10-11). This shows that God's love for you not only forgives your sin and shows you mercy by exempting you from the punishment of sin but it also empowers you by His grace to live a life free from sin. This is because God made Jesus who knew no sin to become sin for us that we might become the righteousness of God in Him (2 Corinthians 5:21). As God's child, you and I are right because of what Jesus Christ has done for us, not by our own strength or ability. If Jesus knew no sin, we cannot know it as well. This is because our righteousness in Christ Jesus invalidates any power of the enemy over our lives which includes the power of sin. Romans 6:11 (NLT) says, "So you also should consider yourselves to be dead to the power of sin and alive to God through Christ Jesus." - AMEN.
I'll end with this Word found in Romans 8:38-39 (NKJV)
"For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels, nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come,
nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Amen, thank you LORD.
