Blessed Sunday

Oct 4
3 min read

Father God, we thank you for the first Sunday of October, the Sunday of the LORD's victory, mercy, redemption, and abundance in the name of Jesus. This is the Sunday of faith arising and new beginnings because He who promised is faithful and will do it in the name of Jesus, Amen. Thank you LORD.

Lead Word is Jesus' Word found in John 14:5-7 (NKJV)

  1. "But now I go away to Him who sent Me, and none of you asks Me, 'Where are you going?'

  2. But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart.

  3. Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you."

Amen, thank you LORD.

Before His departure, Jesus was re assuring and comforting His disciples. The LORD says something profound, that did not register in the hearts of the disciples at the moment. Jesus was telling them that it was better if He would go away because He would be able to send the Helper. I can imagine what was going through the minds of the disciples who witnessed the power and wisdom of Jesus and today, thankfully for us who are blessed to not have seen Jesus in person for Jesus says, "...Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed." (John 20:29 NKJV). This same Word holds true that Jesus' resurrection from the dead on earth to heaven is better for us just like it was for His disciples at the time. Without Jesus' resurrection from the dead, not only would believers not receive the Helper who is the Person of the Holy Spirit but we would also not be able to walk in victory here on earth (1 John 5:4).

Without the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, Apostle Paul encourages believers that if Christ is not risen that would mean our faith is useless because we are still in our sins (1 Corinthians 15:16) and we of all men would need the most pity (1 Corinthians 15:19). Thanks to Jesus' resurrection, we are able to commune with Him, to receive His help, guidance and comfort anywhere and everywhere thanks to the ministry of the Holy Spirit. Can you imagine the torment that Simon Peter must have felt after denying Jesus. This was after he had openly said that he was willing to die for Jesus (Luke 21:33-34). Because of Jesus' resurrection, we have hope and acceptance for there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1). Thanks to the ministry of the Holy Spirit, as a child of God, you now have the power to live a life free of sin because the Spirit of God that raised Jesus from the dead lives in you (Romans 8:11). The resurrection of Jesus is also the hope of a child of God that when God sees you, He sees Jesus' and His finished works of salvation, not your sin, mistakes, past wrongs or failures. The Holy Spirit is also the guarantee in the life of a believer that we have been sealed by God and kept by His power until eternity (Ephesians 1:14).

These are some of the reasons we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus not only on Easter Resurrection Sunday but now and everyday of our lives, thankful as well for the Helper, known as the Holy Spirit who enables God's children to know God and access their blessings from Him.

I'll end with Jesus' Word found in John 16:23-24 (NKJV)

  1. "And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you.

  2. Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full."

Amen, thank you LORD.

Invitation to salvation: The best gift that Jesus gave us is receiving salvation and eternal life which is a personal relationship knowing God as our Father and His Son, Jesus Christ.

If you would like to receive this free gift of God's salvation, please say this prayer with me:

"I believe with my heart and confess with my mouth that God sent His One and only Son who died for my sins and was raised from the dead so that I could have eternal life." AMEN

If you just said this prayer, GLORY TO GOD, you are now a new creation in Christ Jesus! In case you have not already, please prayerfully consider becoming a member of a church and get WATER BAPTIZED!
