Comfort of the Lord
Updated: Oct 7
Psalm 94:17-19 (NKJV)
"Unless the LORD had been my help, my soul would soon have settled in silence.
If I say, "My foot slips," Your mercy, O LORD, will hold me up.
In the multitude of my anxieties within me, Your comforts delight my soul."
Amen, thank you LORD
The writer of this Psalm expresses his feelings to the LORD. He speaks of anxieties within him and how his soul would have settled in silence had not been for the help of the LORD and His comforts that gave delight to His soul. All through the Bible, we see the LORD going to great lengths to comfort everyone who looked to His comfort. The LORD says, "And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart." (Jeremiah 29:13 NKJV)
In addition, Jesus left His body, the church, with the ultimate blessing of Comfort. Jesus in John 14:26 KJV says, "But the Comforter which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in My name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you." Other translations also refer to the Holy Spirit as the Counselor, the Helper and the Spirit of truth. This shows us that the LORD is always ready and more than willing to comfort and encourage all who look to Him.
At the same time, we see a correlation between the LORD's comfort and the Word of God. That is, when God's people looked to Him through His Word and law, they found strength, hope and comfort.
Romans 15:4 (NKJV) says, "For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope." The Word of God when read is powerful enough to comfort and give you hope out of anxiety, grief and depression. God's Word is unchangeable truth that stands forever (Isaiah 40:8) and it is God Himself (John 1:1). A a believer, there is comfort when you present your needs to God in prayer. There is also comfort in community and we see this as well in Apostle Paul's letters who found comfort with his fellow workers in the Kingdom of God (Colossians 4:11-12). At the same time, there is a comfort that comes as a result of reading and meditating on the Scriptures which unlocks the undeniable power of the LORD's healing in your life (1 Peter 2:24).
I'll end with this Word found in Ephesians 3:20 (AMP)
"Now to Him who is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly more than all that we dare ask or think [infinitely beyond our greatest prayers, hopes, or dreams], according to His power that is at work within us,
Amen, thank you LORD.
Invitation to salvation: The best way to know God's love for you is to know Jesus Christ, His Beloved Son. All who receive salvation and believe in the name of Jesus will receive forgiveness of their sins and healing both physically and emotionally for by Jesus' stripes you were healed. 1 Peter 2:24 (NKJV) says, "who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness - by whose stripes you were healed."
If you would like to receive this free gift of God's salvation, please say this prayer with me:
"I believe with my heart and confess with my mouth that God sent His One and only Son who died for my sins and was raised from the dead so that I could have eternal life." AMEN
If you just said this prayer, GLORY TO GOD, you are now a new creation in Christ Jesus! In case you have not already, please prayerfully consider becoming a member of a church and get WATER BAPTIZED!
