God's calling

This is the day that the LORD has made and we shall be glad and rejoice in it. Father, we praise Your holy name this morning, the Ancient of Days, the Beginning and the End, the Alpha and the Omega, the One who is and still is to come, the I AM that I AM, The faithful Witness, the Beloved of the Father that has become ours, we worship You and may Your glory not be shared with another in the name of Jesus, Amen. Thank you LORD.

1 Corinthians 1:26 (NKJV)

"For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble are called."

Amen, thank you LORD.

Yesterday, we looked at the knowledge of God's love and today I'm sharing on God's calling because there is purpose in God's love. Apostle Paul in his letters to the church, shared he was the least of all the people to become an apostle of the Lord's church having been a former blasphemer and persecutor of God's people (1 Timothy 1:14-16). Yet God's grace qualified him for his calling. Another example is David, who God called to shepherd His people according to the integrity of his heart and guided them by the skillfulness of his hands (Psalm 78:72). On the face of it, one would not have discerned that a shepherd boy could become king and ruler of God's people but God who looks at the heart entrusted David with a suitable position of king over Israel, His inheritance (Psalm 78:70-71). This also reminds us that the things God calls you to do not belong to you, they belong to God hence the reason you mind your calling with faithfulness and diligence. Apostle Paul spoke of his calling and said, "For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of, for necessity is laid upon me; yes woe is me if I do not preach the gospel! For if I do this willingly, I have a reward; but if against my will, I have been entrusted with a stewardship." (1 Corinthians 9:16-17)

Another example is Jesus Christ. When Jesus, the Son of God came to the world, He was born into a humble family, Mary gave birth to God's beloved Son in a manger and when He grew up, Isaiah 53:2 says, "For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, and as a root out of dry ground. He has no form or comeliness; And when we see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him."

In case you are wondering, comely is described by Miriam Webster dictionary as a condition that is in reference with respect to grace, beauty or external form. This means the LORD on the face of it was not beautiful to behold with the natural eyes and yet behold, He was the holy Lamb of God who had come to save all the sins of the world.

Today's lead Word is a reminder that sometimes it maybe easy to disqualify oneself from the calling of God when you look at your natural talents, circumstances and capabilities forgetting this is exactly the purpose of God's grace in your life. It is in God's perfect design for your inadequacies and shortcomings to give glory to God's name. As a child of God, your relationship with the LORD Jesus and the Father God is the beginning and the end of your salvation, qualifying you for your calling. That is, your calling will always be based on your personal relationship with the Father God and your inheritance in Christ, not your natural qualifications or works of the flesh.

I'll end with this Word found in 1 Corinthians 1:30-31 (NKJV)

30. "But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God - and righteousness and sanctification and redemption -

31. that as it is written, "He who glories, let him glory in the LORD."
