Growing in faith

Abba Father, we thank you for the entrance of Your Word gives light, may revelation and light come into our hearts and settle there as the Word goes forth in the name of Jesus, Amen. Thank you LORD.

This post is related to yesterday's post titled "Real faith." In a nutshell, real faith is found only in Jesus Christ because He is the author and finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). This means that an idol worshipper cannot be said to have faith because belief in an idol does not translate to faith.

Today's post is focussed on growing in faith. As a child of God, one of the best ways to grow in faith is to exercise your faith with small things. Small things may vary depending on your everyday mundane tasks. I remember sharing this knowledge with a child who was sad because his dog was aging and sick but we prayed and God healed that dog. When you apply your faith for small things, you not only grow in faith but you are also in turn exercising your conscience to always recognize God and the presence of His power at work in you and through you in every situation for His glory. I believe this is what happened with David. He was a shepherd boy who exercised and applied his faith in God in everyday mundane responsibilities as a shepherd boy looking after sheep. When David offered to fight against the giant, he said to king Saul, "...Your servant used to keep his father's sheep, and when a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock, I went out after it and struck it, and delivered the lamb from its mouth; and when it arose against me, I caught it by its beard, and struck and killed it." (1 Samuel 17:34-35).

So when God's people were faced with a giant, Goliath, what seemed like an impossibility and intimidation in the eyes of the people of Israel (1 Samuel 17:26), was a really small matter to David. Since David had exercised faith in his everyday life and routine as a shepherd boy, Goliath was not a giant in his eyes, God was and this was an opportunity for the LORD's glory to be revealed.

I'll end with this Word found in 1 Samuel 17:45 (NKJV)

45. "Then David said to the Philistine, "You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied."
