Others before you

Praise be to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ who has given us every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places because we are united with Christ Jesus, Amen.

Philippians 2:4-5 AMP

  1. "Do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.

  2. Have this same attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus [to look to Him as your example in selfless humility]"

Amen, thank you LORD.

Apostle Paul is reminding us of the importance of walking in humility as a believer. The power of the Holy Spirit through Apostle Paul encouraged the early church just as He is encouraging us today as well, to walk in humility towards one another by putting other people's needs before your own needs.

To illustrate this point, Apostle Paul used Jesus as an example. Jesus although fully God was fully man. I'm convinced that if Jesus decided to fully remain in His God nature, He would not have managed to accomplish God's plan of salvation. So by the power of the Holy Spirit, He gladly humbled Himself by taking on flesh and experiencing and understanding what it meant to live in a human body. Isaiah 53:3-4, speaks of how Jesus was despised and rejected by men yet fully God. Jesus never reminded anyone that He actually created them and could take their breath in a split second. Instead, Jesus took on the hatred, rejection and the shame because it was more important to save man from sin and reconcile them to the Father in relationship than for His power to be revealed against them. Jesus in John 10:11 NKJV says, "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep."

Hebrews 4:14-16 continues to show us that Jesus' humility is the reason every child of God can be comforted and receive of God's love and mercy. This is because as High Priest, He understands what it means to be you. As a result, you may approach His throne boldly and He will be able to provide you with the grace and help you need every single time.

By walking in humility, putting others interests before our own, we also activate the law of love. In John 13:34-35 NKJV, we see Jesus' heart and He says to you and I to love each other the same way He has loved us. That is, "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another." Thankfully, God will not require any of His sons and daughters to do anything that He has not already furnished them with the ability to do so through the Holy Spirit.

The LORD says in Acts 1:8 AMP, "But you will receive power and ability when the Holy Spirit comes upon you; and you will be My witnesses [to tell people about Me] both in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and Samaria, and even to the ends of the earth."

Let's pray: Father, we join our faith in agreement and thank you for this Word. We also thank you LORD Jesus that as Your body, You have given us the grace and power to walk in a heart posture of humility by putting others needs before our own and in love towards each another so we receive this grace to walk in love and put others needs before our own in the name of Jesus, Amen. Thank you LORD.

Invitation to salvation: The above promise is for God's children who have made a confession and received Jesus as Lord and Saviour of their life. When you receive Him, you are forgiven, redeemed from spiritual death, whole, healthy, set apart, complete in Him and reconciled in relationship with God, the Father now until eternity. If this sounds like you:

Please make this confession;

"I believe with my heart and confess with my mouth that; Jesus Christ, the Son of God came in a human body to die for my sins so that I could have a new life where I am dead to sin and alive to God. I repent of my past sins and enter the Kingdom of light where I choose relationship with Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour and with God as my loving Father today and forever. Thank you Father that because the Son has made me free, I am now free indeed." AMEN.

If you just said this prayer, congratulations - GLORY TO GOD, the LORD has redeemed you and you are born again- AMEN. In case you have not already, join a church community and get water baptized!
