Father, we thank you for the gift of a new day. May You give us understanding and draw us closer to Your Word as we read and share today's Word in the name of Jesus, Amen. Thank you LORD.
Today's lead Word is from Isaiah 55:1-3 (NKJV)
"Ho! Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.
Why do you spend money for what is not bread, and your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, and let your soul delight itself in abundance.
Incline your ear to Me. Hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you - the sure mercies of David."
Amen, thank you LORD.
Today's Word is based on Isaiah chapter 55, an integral chapter I find as one builds initimacy in their relationship with God, the Father. Lately, the one question on most people's minds is centered on finding and knowing their purpose. It is important to remember that the true definition of purpose can only be found in God because He is the One who created us. As our Creator and Father, He knows your nature, character and the appropriate calling He has prepared for you. Ephesians 2:10, reminds us that we are God's workmanship created in Christ Jesus to do work that God prepared for us way before our existence. This verse adds an extra layer that not only is purpose given to us by God, but it is also found in a relationship with Jesus. Jesus in John 10:10 reminds us that the thief comes to steal, to kill and to destroy but He came so that we can have life and most importantly, an abundant life.
Isaiah 55 introduces us and shows us the way to live the abundant life which is to grow in intimate relationship with the LORD through His Word. This is reiterated in Isaiah 55:1 above where the Spirit of the LORD encourages us to listen to the LORD for when we do, we shall delight in abundance. Not only that but God promises us, that when incline our ears to His Word, our souls shall live and He will also make an everlasting covenant which are the sure mercies of David (Isaiah 55:3).
So we see that the abundant life is not found in material things but rather in the bread of life which is also the Word of God. Jesus in John 6:35 (NKJV) said to the people, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst."
So what does this mean for us today? - Invest your time, give yourself wholly and completely to God's Word. You cannot be in relationship with someone you do not know. If you are in relationship with God through His Son, Jesus Christ, cultivating a relationship with God through His Word is the best way to know Him. Isaiah 55:6 implores us, "Seek the LORD while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near."
As you continue in relationship and spending time with the LORD through His Word, He reveals His thoughts and His ways to you (Isaiah 55:8-9). And as you dwell in God's Word, you become that well watered garden that bears fruit in its season (Jeremiah 17:7-8) because the LORD promises that every Word that goes forth from His mouth shall not return to Him void but prosper in the thing for which He sent it (Isaiah 55:11). The book of Acts is a beautiful illustration of this and highly encourage you to read it. Herein, you will find that God through the Holy Spirit first prepared and anointed His people, then entrusted them with responsibilities and when they were faithful in those roles, the LORD then ordered their steps into their specific God-ordained callings that also embodied their purpose.
Isaiah 55 illustrates that the core of everything we are deeply longing and searching for is found in God and in His Word. Friend, spending time and inclining your ear to God's Word is access to living the abundant life.
I'll end with this Word found in Isaiah 55:12-13 (NKJV)
"12.For you shall go out with joy, and be led out with peace; the mountains and the hills shall break forth into singing before you, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.
13.Instead of the thorn shall come up the myrtle tree; and it shall be to the LORD for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off."
Amen, thank you LORD.
