The book of Jonah

Praise the LORD family! I'm happy to share that we'll be looking at another book in the Bible! Last year, we looked at the book of Exodus, and in case you never got a chance to read it yet, I highly encourage you to check out my previous blogs on it!

Also, in case, you have never fully read the book of Jonah, I pray the insights shared in the next couple of days will encourage you to open your Bible and read it. May the Holy Spirit bless you and amaze you with revelation, knowledge and insight as you read it in the name of Jesus, Amen. Thank you LORD.

Today's Word is from Jonah 1:1-3 NKJV

  1. Now the Word of the LORD came to Jonah the son of Amittai, saying,

  2. "Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry out against it; for their wickedness has come up before Me."

  3. But Jonah arose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the LORD. He went down to Joppa, and found a ship going to Tarshish; so he paid the fare, and went down into it, to go with them to Tarshish from the presence of the LORD.

When we read the above Scriptures, it is clear that the LORD God gave Jonah an instruction to go to Nineveh, a city whose sin had become so flagrant that the LORD could no longer ignore it.

Jonah, nicely receives this Word and instead of obeying the LORD's instructions, he boards a ship and takes a completely different journey for he wanted to flee from the presence of the LORD.

Is there a chance that Jonah forgot to consider that you cannot flee from the presence of the LORD because He is omnipresent? Numbers 23:19, also reminds us one of the natures of God, that He is not a man (other Bible translations say human being) who changes His mind meaning once God speaks something, it must come to pass.

What I find even more amazing is the patience that God, the Father has. He let Jonah carry on with his free will/choice of disobeying His Word without any interruptions until we see what unfolds in the next couple of verses.
