The law, grace and truth (12)

Father, we thank you that in all things You are God and You are a good Father. As we read and share today's Word, may You give us understanding as our hearts draw closer to Your heart in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Today's lead Word is from Exodus 16:15 (NKJV)

"So when the children of Israel saw it, they said to one another, "What is it?" For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, "This is the bread which the LORD has given you to eat."

Amen, thank you LORD.

Despite the reality of the wilderness, the children of Israel were still blessed of God. God's blessing upon their lives did not depart because of their challenges, rather the challenges exposed that they were blessed of God. As seen in the above Scripture, God sent food from heaven for His people's sustenance as they travelled through the wilderness. When it came to the provision of water, the LORD provided water from a rock with the help of Moses' and this rock was Christ. Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 10:3-4 NKJV tells us, "all ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ." The food, also known as manna, that dropped from heaven everyday (until they reached the promised land) and the water they drunk which came from the Rock, Christ, represents the fellowship that God had with the children of Israel.

This is still relevant to us today as we are still encouraged to fellowship with each other as brothers and sisters in Christ as seen in Hebrews 10:25. It reminds us, "not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching."

Under the new Testament, Jesus is sent by God, the Father to His own people and He says in John 6:49-51 NKJV, "Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and are dead. This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that one may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world."

Today, Jesus is the bread from heaven just like it was in the Old Testament only difference is He did not literally drop from heaven on a provisional basis but this time He was revealed to the world in flesh for eternity. John 1:14 tells us, "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth." As much as the bread that God provided to His people in the wilderness revealed His great and mighty works towards His people, unfortunately, this bread could not give life to those who were feeding on it. So God then sent His Son Christ, who would then complete or fulfill the purpose of the law.

Apostle Paul put it best in Galatians 3:21-22 NKJV and says, "Is the law then against the promises of God? Certainly not! For if there had been a law given which could have given life, truly righteousness would have been by the law. But the Scripture has confined all under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe."

Jesus promises that whoever believes and feeds on Him, both Jew and Gentile, will have everlasting life. May I suggest that the best way to feed on Jesus is through His Word. Another way we remember and feed on Jesus is through intake of Holy Communion elements where the drink or liquid is symbolic of the new covenant of His blood that was shed on the cross and the 'bread'/wafer which is symbolic of His body that was broken on our behalf (1 Corinthians 10:24-25).

I'll end with this Word found in Galatians 4:4-5 (NKJV)

"But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law,

to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons."

Amen, thank you LORD.

Invitation to salvation: God is love and He loves you and His arms are open wide just to receive you. Jesus in Matthew 18:12 says, that He would leave the ninety nine to go find that one lost sheep. There is no need for perfection because Jesus Christ was made to be perfection on your behalf by God, the Father. If you would like to receive this free gift of salvation that is found in God's Son, Jesus Christ who is also the bread of life;

"I believe with my heart and confess with my mouth that; Jesus Christ, the Son of God came in a human body to die for my sins so that I could have a new life where I am dead to sin and alive to God. I repent of my past sins and enter the Kingdom of light where I choose relationship with Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour and with God as my loving Father today and forever. Thank you Father that because the Son has made me free, I am now free indeed." AMEN.
