The Life of the Word

This is the day that the LORD has made. We are glad and we rejoice in it. Abba Father, thank you for the perfect gift of Your Son. Thank you for Your mercy, loving kindness and grace found in Christ. Thank you Abba that we are now a part of Your Kingdom and of the increase and the government of the risen King Jesus, that has no end. We thank you for the gift of salvation and we give you all the glory and praise, Amen.

Psalm 36:9 AMP

"For with You is the fountain of life [the fountain of life-giving water]; in Your light we see light."

Amen, thank you LORD.

Jesus in John 4:1-26 meets a woman at the well, a Samaritan woman, and asks her for a drink. This woman was amazed that a Jewish man was asking her for a drink because Jews and Samaritans at the time did not exactly get along. Jesus tells her that if you knew who was asking you for water, you would ask that He gives you living water where you would never thirst again (John 4:10). This woman without hesitation said, give me this water. For this woman to ask for living water where she would never thirst again, it means she must have really been going through a really difficult season in her life.

When you read this chapter, Jesus' encounter with this woman may appear a 'random stop over' at a well for Him to get a drink, but I believe the Holy Spirit through Apostle John is showing that it was a divine encounter orchestrated by heaven to free a woman who was searching for something deeper that nothing in the world could give her.

She had been married five times and at the time Jesus met her, she was staying with a man who was not her husband. When Jesus saw that she was honest with her circumstances, He in turn gave of himself to her. That is in John 4:25-26 NKJV, "The woman said to Him, "I know that Messiah is coming" (who is called the Christ). "When He comes, He will tell us all things." Jesus said to her, "I who speak to you am He." I love this woman's response. She dropped her water pot and run to tell people in the town about Jesus (John 4:28). I believe this woman understood that her encounter with the Messiah, who is also the fountain of life had freed her from all of her worries and troubles. Can you imagine her one encounter with Jesus liberated her to share the gospel to people in her town. She shifted from the woman who was drawing water at the well at a time when there was barely anyone to now openly proclaiming the name of Messiah. Thankfully, Jesus Christ is still the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8) because even today, He is still in the habit of delivering and setting his people free from everything that is contrary to the plans and purposes that He has for their lives. It appears the lesson here is when you are at the well, the fountain of life-giving water, you will always encounter the Messiah.

In case you are wondering, how do you draw from the fountain of life-giving water? - By forming a relationship with the Word of God. Jesus says in John 6:35 NKJV says, "...I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst."

The second part of Psalm 36:9, reminds us that in Your light, we see light. Jesus is the Light here. Jesus says in John 8:12 NLT, "Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, "I am the light of the world. If you follow Me, you won't have to walk in darkness because you have the light that leads to life."

In case you are wondering, how do you follow the the Light of the world? - The simple answer is the Word. Psalm 119:105 says, "Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." The Word of God lights and directs your pathway as you understand the Scriptures. Without the light of God's Word, Jesus says, one risks walking in darkness.

However, when you abide in the Light of His Word, not only will you be like a tree planted by the riverside bearing fruit in every season (Psalm 1:3), you will also have Him as your good Shepherd, the one who gives His life for the sheep (John 10:11). Jesus laying down His life for the sheep means that Jesus will carry you through every season of your life whether it is good or challenging just like He did with the Samaritan woman at the well.

Isaiah 40:11 TPT says, "He will care for you as a shepherd tends his flock, gathering the weak lambs and taking them in his arms. He carries them close to his heart and gently leads those that have young." - Amen!

In conclusion, God has made it possible for You to encounter Him in the Word and just like the Samaritan woman, you can receive the freedom she received. As a result, the LORD is ready and waiting on you to meet Him in His Word. Personally, I strongly recommend owning a physical Bible. There is truly no greater investment than in the Word of God and the works of His Kingdom. Amen!

I'll end with John 1:1-5 (NKJV)

1. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2. He was in the beginning with God.

3. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.

4. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.

5. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it."
